Phyllis Kolling was hostess for the Aug. 18 meeting of Lakeside EEU. Edith Scripter opened the meeting with a thought for the day. Noreen Zumbrunn gave the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports. Roll call was answered with “Show Your Apron.” All members and one guest, Alli Burns, were present.

President Jean Chamberlin reported on the County Council meeting. Kelsey Sanborn was the recipient of the $200 scholarship given by the council. Jean read an invitation from Deb Wood, Geary County Extension Agent, to attend the Geary Fall Program September 28.

Phyllis was in charge of decorating tables at the Senior Center and providing bingo prizes at CVM for August. Extension Agent Alli Burns reported she had just learned that funds for 2011 would be significantly reduced. Alli gave an interesting lesson on different specialty flours and grains. She brought 17 different kinds and talked about their uses. She passed out recipes using many of the flours and grains.

Sharon Fann received the travel gift bag. Several members received anniversary gifts from their secret pal. Edith assisted Phyllis with serving delicious refreshments.

A club tour is planned for 10 a.m. Sept. 15.
