The Rural Vista Heat volleyball team will look very similar to the team that finished 28-8 and was the Wheat State League regular season runner-up and the tournament runner-up last season. That team was also the sub-state runner-up.
Coach Adam Sobba brings back everybody from that 2017 team.
“Another year of experience will be huge for the development of this team,” Sobba said. “We will once again be focusing on improving our passing to allow our setters to get the ball to our hitters. Blocking will also be a key focus for us going into this season.”
The Heat will be led by three returning first-team All-League selections Hannah Riedy, Holly Brockmeier and Lauren Campuzano. Coach Sobba also expects to get leadership from senior Lebero Jessyka Barten.
“These girls have put in a lot of work over the summer in the weight room and we will look to use that improved strength and athleticism to our advantage,” he said. “Expectations are very high for this team and the girls are ready to take on that challenge.”
Seniors Hannah Stilwell and Jordyn Sanford along with sophomores Megan and Amber Brockmeier all return for the Heat and should see a lot of playing time on the court. The coach also listed junior Kelci Sly and sophomore Cami Jacobson as key newcomers to the program.
Rural Vista opens the 2018 season at White City on August 30 with duals against Wakefield and St. Xavier.
