CHAPMAN — Larry J. Murphy, 72, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, at his home in Chapman. He was born March 30, 1946, in Abilene, the son of Warren and Melva (Fisher) Murphy.

Growing up in the area, Larry attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1964. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Larry had been employed as a truck driver by Tony’s Pizza and Konza Construction.

He was formerly married to Jane Tyner and Judy Bughman. Larry was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He had previously managed American Legion Post 240 for 13 years in Chapman.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gordon Murphy. He is survived by sons Tad (Nicole) Murphy of Olathe, Neal (Trisha) Murphy of Jakarta Indonesia and Ryan (Kelley) Murphy of Ottawa, nine grandchildren, sister Kaye Eveleth of Abilene and a companion of 23 years, Jan Warhurst of Chapman.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Danner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Danner Funeral Home, with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his memory be made to American Legion Post 240 or Dickinson County Hospice. They may be left at or sent in care of Danner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 758, Abilene, KS 67410.
