James E. “Jim” Johnson, 89, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019, in Salina.

He was born January 25, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Carl C. and Alma A. (Thorp) Johnson. Growing up in the Paola area, he attended local schools. On March 27, 1953, Jim married Naomia L. Morrison at Springhill.

Most of their married life was spent in Navarre. She preceded him in death July 26, 2017. He was employed by Kansas Artificial Breeding Association (KABSU). He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and crafts. Jim was also preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorene Rhoades, and brothers Sidney, Gilbert and Robert Johnson.

He is survived by daughters Vickie (Steve) Maddy of Kipp, Mary Linder of Salina, Brenda (Peter) Veilleux of Salina, son James (Jean) Johnson of Goodland, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family has chosen cremation. Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Danner Funeral Home, with Pastor Happel officiating. Inurnment will follow in Navarre Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to Hospice of Saline County. They may be left at or sent in care of Danner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 758, Abilene, KS 67410.
