Dorothy Burton was born June 9, 1926 in Kentucky, the daughter of James and Millie (Thompson) Staley.

She came to Kansas in 1948 and met Claude Gay, Sr., married and had four children before later divorcing. Dorothy owned the Texan Café in Abilene for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. She was married to Dale Humpert. He passed away in September 1994. She then married Ray Burton. He passed away in February 2015.

Dorothy passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at her home in Abilene.

She is survived by her daughters Kathy Geske and her husband Tim of Enterprise, Linda Gray of Salina, son Claude Gay of St. Joseph, Missouri, sister-in-law Barb Staley of Ohio, grandchildren Tad Hernandez (Kelly) of Holton, Chris Gray (Lynn) of Anchorage, AL and Lucas Geske (Angela) of Abilene and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter Roxanna “Roxie” Gay and her brothers and sisters.

Dorothy’s request was for cremation. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday August 26, 2018 at the funeral home. Private family graveside services will follow.
