Kenneth E. Houlton
Kenneth E. Houlton, age 84, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his home in Abilene. He was born in Abilene, Kansas on April 22, 1929 to Harold G. and Mildred E. (Howie) Houlton. He attended Lincoln and McKinley Grade Schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1948.
On August 31, 1952 he was united in marriage with Kathryn C. Martsolf in Abilene. All their married life was spent in Abilene. He was self-employed with “Harold G. Houlton & Son, Kenneth House Moving and General Contracting.” In 1971, he was employed by Walker Stone Company of Chapman, Kansas as a maintenance mechanic, retiring after 21 years. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of the home; three daughters: Patricia (James) Lollar of Auberry, California, Cecilia (Bob) Rogers of Abilene, and Beverly (Walter) Stultz of Abilene; son Duane (Cheryl) Houlton of Abilene; six grandchildren, Clifton Lollar and Karen Lollar of Clovis, California, Dennis (Donnell) Barlow, Shelly (Kasey) Bogart, Ethan Houlton all of Abilene, and Christopher Barlow of Marion, Kansas; five great grandchildren Brodyn and Emma Barlow of Abilene, Aden and Colby Melton, and Zachary Lollar all of Clovis, California. Three sisters: Janice (George) Kleinsorge of Enterprise, Nancy Womochil of Abilene, Linda Houlton of DeSoto, Iowa.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Thelma Knopp and Phyllis Fager.
Funeral services for Kenneth will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Eurit officiating. His final resting place will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Friends may sign the register book after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and until service time at the church on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dickinson County or to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
