Though still a couple months away preparation for this year’s annual Central Kansas Free Fair is in full swing.
This year’s theme has been announced, and is, “Blue Ribbon Memories of the Central Kansas Free Fair.”
“The Parade Committee is excited by this year’s theme as everyone has memories of prior fairs,” said Anita Williams, committee chairperson.
The parade will hit the streets of Abilene on Thursday, Aug. 1, with a start time of 4 p.m. The parade route will remain the same as usual, starting at the corner of 7th Street and Buckeye Avenue, heading south to 3rd Street and proceeding west to the end point at Washington Street. The Parade Committee is proud to announce that this year’s Grand Marshal is Dr. Mike Whitehair.
“We hope that more Central Kansas businesses and organizations will be excited about having their presence in the parade,” Williams said. “The committee has already heard from several organizations that plan to participate in this year’s parade, and are already planning their floats.”
Pre-registration will be required for participation in the parade. You can obtain a registration form by picking up a copy at the Fair office located at 619 N. Rogers Street, or call 785-263-4570.
Registration forms, with rules and guidelines will be mailed out to all those individuals/organizations that have participated in the past two year’s parades. For any additional questions email the parade committee: firstname.lastname@example.org.
If any individual or civic group would like to assist with this year’s parade, volunteers are always needed on the day of the parade. Any monetary donations will also be gladly accepted. To volunteer or donate call 785-263-4570.
