HERINGTON –– Irene S. “Hon” Castleberry, 80, lifelong resident of Herington, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Mercy Regional Health Center of Manhattan. She was born on March 14, 1933, at Herington, the daughter of Fred and Anna L. (Sauer) Herbel.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the Sunset Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, from 2 until 6 p.m. Friday, May 24. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday evening from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the American Legion Club House located at the Lake of Herington for family and friends.
Mrs. Castleberry was a homemaker. She graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1951.
She married Lavern “Cass” Castleberry on Sept. 21, 1952, celebrated 55 years of marriage; and he preceded in death on Jan. 20, 2008. Also, preceded in death by a brother Charlie, a sister Marie, and her parents.
She is survived by two daughters: Connie Castleberry of Herington and Cathy Goodman of Olathe, a son Ben Castleberry of Herington, a brother Harry Herbel and a sister Virginia “Tilly” Phelps both of Herington, 10 grandchildren, and eight great- grandchildren.
