BLUE RAPIDS – In his final year of track and field at Hope High School, senior Nathan Lorson will represent the Lions at the state track meet in Wichita Friday.
Lorson finished second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.93 to qualify with the eighth best time of the final 16 Class 1A boys in the state.
He also qualified in the 200-meter dash by placing fourth with a time of 23.80 besting his regional meet qualifying time of 24.12 in the preliminaries.
Lorson’s two teammates Dustin Davidson and Quenton Adkins just missed qualifying for state by placing fifth in the 800-meter run and the1600-meter run respectfully.
Only the top four in each event qualify for the state meet.
The Lady Hope lions were represented at the regional by junior Abby Ink who just missed qualifying for the 200-meter dash.
Senior Raelyn Lorson, the reigning 1A state long jump champion, has been sidelined this season due to injury. She leaped 17-00.75 in her junior year to capture the 1A title.
Team scoring for the girls’ division was Baileyville-B&B 81, Linn 55, Osborne 54, Valley Heights 53, Hanover 49, Axtell 49, Centralia 39, Clifton-Clyde 31, Scandia-Pike Valley 30, Wetmore 26, Beloit-St. John’s 18, Frankfort 18, Downs-Lakeside 15, Wilson 12, Randolph-Blue Valley 10, White City 8, Kensington-Thunder Ridge 8, Tescott 1 and Hope.
Centralia won the boy’s division with 78 points followed by Clifton-Clyde 64, Valley Heights 60, Axtell 51, Osborne 47, Scandia-Pike Valley 42.6, Linn 40, Frankfort 35, Randolph-Blue Valley 24, Hanover 21, Sylvan-Lucas Unified 18, Tescott 18, Hope 16, Glasco 14, Kensington-Thunder Ridge 11, Miltonvale 8, White City 4, Beloit-St. John’s 3.3 and Baileyville-B&B 2.
