HERINGTON- The senior sensation from Solomon, Josh Burdine, won four regional gold medals at the Class 2A Regional Track Meet in Herington Friday.
Burdine qualified for the state track meet in Wichita beginning Friday by winning the four events he was entered in at the regional meet.
He took first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.62 besting his prelim winning time of 14.91.
Burdine claimed the high jump with a jump of 6-6. His fellow Gorilla teammate Mason DeMars finished third place at 6-2 and also qualified for state with that jump.
His 20-11.5 leap in the long jump, not only won the Herington regional but put him in fourth place in the 16 state qualifying jumps.
In the triple jump, Burdine took home gold with a leap of 46-0.25 and landed him at the top of the qualifiers list.
Herington’s Ramsey Stramel placed second in the triple jump (41-10) to also qualify him for the state meet.
Stramel double qualified for state by winning the 400-meter dash at 51.41.
Sarah Lietz of the Lady Railers captured the fourth place medal in shot put with a throw of 33-09.25 to also represent Herington at the state meet.
Solomon’s 4x100 relay team (Justin Glover, DeMars, Daniel Durant and Jesse Glover) placed 1st in a time of 44.69 to advance to state.
Freshman Carina Coup of Herington placed sixth the girl’s high jump at 4-10 but did not qualify for state as only the top four placers advanced.
