Bert J. Wilson
SALINA –– Bert J. Wilson, 87, died Monday, Dec. 31, in Salina. He was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Detroit, the son of Bert Sr. and Catharine (Fawcett) Wilson.
Growing up in the area, he attended local schools and graduated from Talmage High School. He was a Naval veteran. In 1946 he started his poultry farm.
On Jan. 27, 1946, he married Delores Franklin, later divorcing. On May 8, 1982, he married Pauline M. Diehl. Most of their married life was spent poultry farming north of Solomon. From 1983 until 1986 he owned and operated a 21st Century real estate business in Salina.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Blue and a brother, Frank Wilson.
He was a member of the Abilene Eagles Lodge, Salina Moose Club, Abilene Emmanuel Methodist Church and the Midwestern Polka Club.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline, Chapman; five sons, Richard Wilson, Abilene, Daniel Wilson, Las Vegas, Nev., David Wilson, Norfolk, Va., Daniel Diehl, Wichita, Donald Diehl, Abilene, a daughter Deborah Nelson, Chapman; 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, a sister, Dorothy Walters, Rogers, Ark., three brothers, Tom Wilson, Abilene, Mickey Wilson, Shell Knob, Mo., and Steve Wilson, Salina.
The family will receive friends 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Danner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Abilene Emmanuel Church. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Abilene Emmanuel Church. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home P.O. Box 758 Abilene, KS 67410.
