Staff from Abilene’s USD 435 and Memorial Health System partnered to offer student physicals to help students meet Kansas State High School Athletics Association requirements.
Students who will be in 7th through 12th grades and plan to participate in athletics, dance, or cheer activities are required to have a KSHSAA physical on file before practice begins on Aug. 19.
Will Burton, Abilene High School athletic director, and Brandi McGivney, USD 435 school nurse, organized the students.
Dr. Dennis Biggs, Dr. Steven Schwarting, Dr. Bill Short, Dr. Brian Holmes, and Dr. Doug Sheern with assistance from Chantell Debenham, family nurse practitioner, and Stephanie Grennan, physician assistant, performed the physicals.
The Abilene physicians have partnered with USD 435 for many years to provide the student physicals. Because of retirements later in the year, this is the last time that the physicians from Abilene Family Physicians will be involved.
