SOLOMON — Never holding his head down after a game and always giving his all, Solomon’s Josh Burdine has scored double digits every game for the Solomon Gorillas and is looking to further his basketball career after high school.

“He is a big offensive player,” Solomon boys basketball Coach Tom Flax said. “We don’t necessarily put pressure on him to score but we know if we get him the ball he will make good decisions for the team.”

Burdine is a senior at Solomon High School. He’s played basketball all four years of high school. As a freshman, Burdine was playing varsity basketball, and was scoring. But as Burdine grew older and started to progress through high school, so did his athletic ability.

“He is also a very good defender,” Flax said. “I think that when he gets to college he will be more pushed on the defensive side of the court than he will be to score because of his skills on defense.”

Burdine, in his final year of high school basketball, is averaging 22 points a game and nine rebounds. He has 17 blocks, eight steals, 35 defensive assists and 11 offensive assists so far this season for the Gorillas.

As for furthering his basketball career, Brudine is hoping to one day play for a Division 1 college. However, right now he is very interested in the junior colleges that are giving him attention. Coach Flax said that Burdine is very interested in the college attention but is not looking too deep into anything right now because he is focusing on playing good basketball right now.

“Josh is pretty humble,” said Flax. “He does not look to showboat or show anyone up. He plays hard and deserves the recognition that he gets.”

Burdine and the rest of the Gorillas basketball team will travel to Goesell Jan. 4 of the new year to play in their first game after the holiday break.
