Robert D. Sims, 81 of Abilene, Kansas passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Village Manor Nursing Home in Abilene. He was born May 27, 1931, the son of Nelson and Eda L. (Renspea) Sims. Robert enlisted in the Army in 1952, serving in the Korean War, where he earned three Bronze Service Stars. He worked for many years as a sheet metal fabricator. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, junking, gardening, cooking at Bobís place and cards.
He married Pearl (Sutton) Sims July 23, 1959 in Scott City, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three sons, Bob Sims and wife Pam, Rod Sims , both from Abilene and Ken Sims and wife Trudy of Chapman, Kansas. Son-in-law Owen Goodman. Grandchildren; Kyle Sims, Kade Sims, William Goodman and wife Kristy; Robert Goodman, Tracy Goodman, Lindsy Martin, Chelsey Sims, Cody Sims and wife Amanda and Tara Robison and husband Kalen. Eight Great-Grandchildren, brother Walter Sims and sister Ruth McReel . He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Paulina Goodman and Phyllis Sims. One great-granddaughter, Tenleigh Robison. Two sisters, Marge Reed and Norma Praters and brother, Wayne Sims.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home of Abilene with Pastor Stan Norman officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Farmington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8 P.M., Tuesday, April 30 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home.
