CHAPMAN The Chapman Lady Irish softball played host to the Lady Buffaloes of Belleville Republic County Friday and won a double header.
The Irish were clicking on all cylinders against the Lady Buffaloes, scoring 26 runs on 24 hits and the defense played solid.
We played pretty well, Chapman Coach Jeff Beemer said.
Morgan Beemer toed the rubber in the first game for Chapman allowing three hits and striking out eight over six innings. She allowed one earned run in her six innings of work to lead the Irish to an 11-1 victory.
We had a good performance on the mound from Morgan and our defense played well, Beemer said.
The Irish scored four runs in the sixth on a passed ball, an RBI single by Jesse Heiman and another passed ball.
Gillian Farley went a perfect 2-2 at the dish for Chapman. She doubled in the third inning and singled in the fourth. Farley drove in two runs and scored twice for the Irish.
Heiman, Beemer and Macey Langvardt all had two hits each for the Fighting Irish.
Beemer raise her record to 5-3 on the season for Chapman.
In game two, Abby Sweet, returning from an injury, took the mound for the Irish.
Sweet pitched four shut-out innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three Buffalo batters to earn the 15-0 Chapman win.
Abby was really good on the mound. It was good to see her have that kind of performance coming off of injury, Beemer said.
Langvardt had a hot bat for the Irish. She went 3-4, drove in one run and scored twice. She had a triple in the third inning and singled in the first and fourth innings.
Heiman was 3-3 for Chapman and scored two runs in the game.
Beemer went two-for-four, driving in two runs and scoring twice.
The Lady Irish scored 15 runs on 12 hits in the nightcap.
We got the short game going early and put up big numbers the first inning, Beemer said.
We started squaring up the ball pretty well. Weve been playing pretty good defense and pitching well all year, Beemer concluded.
The Irish will host Council Grove Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
