A convenience store employee was unharmed Sunday night after an armed robbery of an Abilene convenience store. The next day Abilene Police and members of the Dickinson County Sheriff’s officers arrested an Abilene man at a hotel in connection with the theft.
According to Abilene Police Detective Jason Wilkins, a white male entered the Liberty convenience store, 601 S. Buckeye, at 7:33 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23. Armed with a knife, he demanded the clerk give him money from the cash register. After taking the cash estimated at $300, he left on foot.
On Monday, Dec. 24, police and sheriff’s officials searched a room at the Budget Lodge Inn, 101 N.W. 14th. Officers recovered a large sum of U.S. Currency believed to have been taken in the Liberty theft, Wilkins said. Also found were a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, possession of certain stimulants (methamphetamine, bath salts, Khat) and use/possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia was Robert Lee Taylor, 51.
He is in Dickinson County jail on a $250,000 bond.
