Melvin John Strunk, 89, died April 14, 2013. He was born October 21, 1923 in Abilene, Kansas. He was the son of John and Norma (Grundmeier) Strunk.
He was baptized and confirmed into membership of the New Basel Church where he has been a lifelong member.
A graduate of Chapman High School in 1941, he attended Michigan State University and served as an officer in the United States Army Air Corps.
During World War II he flew 35 missions over Europe and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal.
Since that time he worked in the sheet metal business and farming.
He was united in marriage to Marie Bertsch on June 1, 1946.
Melvin was preceded in death by his brother Marvin.
Melvin is survived by his wife Marie of Salina; a daughter, Judy Bowser (Tom) of Oletha; a son, Jon Strunk(Susan) of Neosho Rapids; grandchildren: Christopher Bowser (Lisa), Beth Scruggs(Todd) ,Chase Strunk, Shawn Strunk; and great grandchildren: Maggie and Andrew Scruggs, Ellen and Anne Bowser.
A service of thanksgiving for Melvinís life will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 17th, at the New Basel Church with Erik Graefe officiating. Interment will follow in the New Basel Cemetery.
The family requests no flowers please. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Basel Church, the Dominican Republic Mission Project of Village Presbyterian Church, or the donorís choice.
