Position in USD #435: Second Grade Teacher

Previous teaching experience: I graduated from KSU in December, so I was able to participate in an ESL program and co-teach Kindergarten in Salina for the remainder of the school year.
Hometown: Fredonia, Kan.
What inspired you to go into education? I remember always wanting to be a teacher. My younger brother would tell you that I spent many years "teaching" him whether he liked it or not. I even have a book from kindergarten stating that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. Helping other students in class was something I enjoyed in elementary school. In high school, I was able to volunteer in a third grade classroom and that cemented my decision and I knew I was on the right career path.
A memorable teaching moment: I have so many wonderful memories from all of my previous classes. Every year is different and the students are special in their own unique way. Second grade is the year where many students begin reading chapter books. I love to see the excitement they have when they realize that they CAN read a chapter book and that they ENJOY it! The many memories of getting to share with different students as they experience learning to love to read can't be beat!
