A Dickinson County native has been selected as the new executive director of the Abilene Area Chamber of Commerce.
Torey Berndt is expected to start part time immediately and move in to the full time position on June 10.
Berndt graduated from Herington High School. She will receive her Bachelor’s of Science degree in hospitality management with minors in business and leadership studies from Kansas State University in May.
“We are thrilled to have Torey leading the Chamber,” said Kelly Cooper, chairman of the board for the Abilene Chamber. “Her enthusiasm and leadership skills are just what the Chamber needs at this point in time. Chamber members can be assured that Torey will hit the ground running as soon as she gets on board.”
Berndt said she is anxious to return to her home county.
“This opportunity is something I’m grateful for,” she said. “I'm excited to meet all the members of the Abilene community, and offer assistance to the businesses. I'm looking forward to returning to the area.”
