JUNCTION CITY –– The Abilene boys’ tennis team swept the Junction City Blue Jays Thursday evening in Junction City.
“We scheduled this tournament against Junction City because everybody gets to play singles and everyone gets to play doubles,” said Coach Garry Stredney.
“This gives us a chance to look at players in different situations against good competition,” Stredney added.
The Cowboys won all six singles matches and the three doubles contests.
“We won all our matches and everybody played well,” he said.
Cowboy Mathew Barlow defeated Sean Skinner 6-0, 6-0 in the number one singles match.
Number two singles player Kaynan Anderson defeated Josh Brandmahl 6-0, 7-5.
Conner Kijowski, the Cowboys number three singles player, won over Shelby Moffith 6-1, 6-0.
Abilene’s Gabe Johnson won the number four singles match over Kyle Hand 6-3, 6-1.
Reggie Koop of the Cowboys defeated Evan Hallum 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 in the number five singles match.
Abilene’s Tyler Schniffer put away Casey Zimmerman 6-4, 6-5 in the number six singles contest.
Anderson and Kijowski, Abilene’s number one doubles team, defeated Skinner and Brandmahl 6-0, 6-0.
Barlow and Johnson of the Cowboys won over Hallum and Zimmerman 6-1, 6-1.
Cowboys’ Koop and Schniffer defeated Junction City’s Markus King and Dave Graham 6-4, 7-6 and 7-4 tiebreaker for the Cowboy sweep of the dual meet.
