CARLSBAD, Calif. –– Thomas J. McRae, 92, of Carlsbad, Calif., former resident of Herington, died Monday, March 18, 2013. He was born Dec. 21, 1920, near Shady Brook (north of Herington), the son of Samuel and Sophia (Blume) McRae.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with Rev. Charles Norman officiating; burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He married Geraldene M. “Gerry” Liddell on May 24, 1947, in Olathe, she preceded in death on April 3, 2000. He is also preceded in death by three sisters Betty Duren, Beth Pagenkopf, and Mildred Smith, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife Nieves Aida of Carlsbad, Calif.; a daughter Janet Leininger of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a son Thomas L. McRae of Land O Lakes, Fla.; a sister Carol Deason of Topeka; and two brothers: Don McRae of Peking, Ill. and Wayne McRae of Oak Grove, Mo. He is also survived by four grandchildren: and five great-grandchildren.
