LINDSBORG –– Funeral services for Mary Louise Bogart, age 86 of Lindsborg, formerly of Carlton, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Carlton Presbyterian Church in Carlton with Reverend Glen Bays and Reverend Charles Norman officiating. Mrs. Bogart passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at her home in Lindsborg.
She was born July 4, 1926 in Elmo, Kansas the daughter of Harvey Elmer and Anna Catherine (Giersch) Dautel. She grew up in the Elmo area and graduated from Chapman High School and attained 6 hours of college in linguistics.
Mary Lou taught school at Rich Valley School from 1944 – 1946 then taught at Fairview until marrying Verlin “Tad” Bogart on May 25, 1947 in New Basel. Following her marriage to Tad, Mary Lou worked for the Carlton CO-OP, Central Soya in Abilene, Abilene CO-OP, and the ASCS office in Abilene. She was a 4–H Food and Sewing Leader for many years and was a member of the Carlton Presbyterian Church where she started the first Junior Choir, the Red Hat Ladies, Carlton UPW, the Eastern Star, and the Carlton Senior Citizens, but her greatest joy was being a Wife, Mother, and Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
In 1991 Tad passed away. On June 25, 1994 Mary Lou married Clarence W. Engle he passed away on December 31, 1994. She is survived by her daughters Diane
(Cal) Williams of Colby, Rita (Robert) Engle of Lindsborg; sister Phyllis (Bill) Peterson of Abilene; 5 grandchildren Wendy and Johnson, Heather Williams, Amie and Chris Bauer, Julia and husband Josh Jennings, and Seth Bogart; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husbands’ Tad and Clarence, son Craig, brothers Dale, Donald, Larry; sisters Lucille, Joann, Leona, and her parents.
Private graveside services for Mary Lou will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Carlton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410. A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lindsborg with the family receiving friends following the service.
