J. Lester Moore, 97, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Chapman Valley Manor in Chapman.
He was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Woodbine the son of Charles and Lillie (Haller) Moore. He graduated from Abilene High School and attended Kansas State University.
Lester served his country in the United Sates Navy and the United States Coast Guard during WWII. Following the war Lester worked for Boeing in Wichita until his retirement and then worked for Ft. Riley as a boiler engineer before again retiring.
On Feb. 19, 1945, he married Eilene Asper in Abilene. She died on Jan. 20, 2010. Lester is survived by his daughters, Vicki Zey of Abilene, Julie Turner of Abilene; sister Miriam Irwin of Abilene; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Eilene; sisters Izella Bowser and Gladys West.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Pastor Kerry Coup officiating.
Lesterís final resting place will be in the Abilene Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign the register book after 1 p.m. Thursday until service time at the funeral home.
