A total of 12 inches of snow, six inches on Wednesday and six inches on Thursday covered Abilene.
A late Thursday afternoon snowfall of about 4 inches made streets and highways snow covered and slick in spots. Law enforcement officials, snow removal crews and wreckers had a busy day. Friday morning most of the main streets and highways were clear.
The City of Abilene lifted the snow emergency Friday morning. Parking restrictions that were required by city code during the duration of the snow emergency are no longer in force, said City Manager David Dillner.
The city issued the snow emergency Wednesday afternoon.
All vehicles parked on emergency snow routes were required to be removed.
Dillner said that owners of vehicles that were removed from emergency snow routes during the snow emergency should contact Abilene Police Department for information on claiming vehicles at 785-263-1213.
“The City of Abilene appreciated the cooperation of the public during the snow emergency,” Dillner said.
