CHAPMAN –– Howard Eugene Lang, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Chapman Valley Manor.

He was born April 13, 1920, at Tampa, to Rudolph C. and Bertha (Weiss) Lang.

Howard attended Elm Springs Grade School and Durham High School. He moved to the Chapman area when he was a freshman in high school. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1942 - 1945 during WWII.

He was married to Evelyn Leone Hassler on April 1, 1949. They farmed for many years south of Chapman until they retired and moved into Chapman in 1987. She preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2007. He moved to Chapman Valley Manor April 30, 2010.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Melvin, Norman, and Orville, sister, Ruth Nevin, infant sister, Naomi Lang, and a grandson, Joshua Brandt.

Survivors include three daughters Nancy Brinkman, Naperville Ill., Joyce Speer, Dalhart, Texas, Cheryl Brandt, Beavercreek, Ohio; a son, Lyle Lang, Eugene, Ore.; 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; three brothers Paul, Burlingame, Milton, Kansas City, Mo., Waldo, Abilene; three sisters: Pauline Barnes, Tyrone Okla., Melba Spence, Livermore Calif., and LaVella Burjes, Chapman.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Londeen Funeral Chapel. Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Londeen Funeral Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec., 21, 2012, at Scherer Memorial Lutheran Church, with Pastor Amy Truhe officiating. Burial will be in Indian Hill Cemetery in Chapman.

Memorials may be given to Scherer Memorial Lutheran Church or the Chapman Senior Center. They may be sent in care of the Londeen Funeral Chapel, Box 429, Chapman KS 67431.
