Melva L. Murphy

ENTERPRISE –– Melva L. Murphy, 96, passed away Saturday, February 9th, in Enterprise. She was born July 26, 1916 in the Buckeye Community northeast of Abilene, the daughter of Joseph and Carrie (Tower) Fisher. Growing up in the area, she attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1934. After high school, she was a cook at the county farm. On March 4, 1939, she was married to Warren Murphy. Most all of their married life was spent in Detroit. She had cooked in the Detroit, Upland and Hiawatha Schools. They owned and operated the Murphy’s Café in Enterprise for 6 years. Warren preceded her in death September 24, 1981. She was also preceded in death by a son, Gordon in 2002, an infant grandson, Perry Dee Eveleth in 1960, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Survivors: Daughter Kaye (John) Eveleth, Abilene; Son Larry Murphy, Chapman; Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 15th, at the Danner Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Britt officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. Thursday, February 14th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be given to the Emmanuel Methodist Church, Enterprise Estates or the Heart Fund. They may be left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
