Richard Morgan

Richard Irvin Morgan passed away Jan. 30, 2013, at the Abilene Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 5, 1922, at Bennett Springs, Missouri, the son of Fred and Mary Morgan.

Richard married Zola Mae Bowden on Aug. 18, 1946. They made their home near Navarre, Kan. for 67 years. He was a farmer, dairyman and also retired from Ehrsam Company, later Combustion Engineering, in 1984, after being with the company for 30 years.

He was a long time member of the Church of the Brethren in Navarra until it closed. He and his wife then joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

He served in the military from August 1944 to July 1946, spending 18 months in the European Theater with the 3rd Army.

Survivors include his wife, Zola Mae, two sons Gary and wife Judy of Kirbyville, Mo., Fred and wife Julie of Salina, Kan. Six grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren, one great-great grandson, one sister, Dot Renner of Stuttgart, Ark., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald in 2002, his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in rural Abilene with Pastor John Weibe and Pastor Chester Strobel officiating. Burial will follow at Navarra Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3, at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home of Abilene. Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. Saturday.
