JUNCTION CITY –– Mary Mansfield Williams, a resident of Junction City, Kan., passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City, Kan., at the age of 96.

Mary was born Sept. 3, 1916, in New Castle on Tyne South Shields, England. Her parents were Thomas and Dora George Mansfield.

She was a nurse at Thorpe St Andrews Hospital in Norwich, England. She met Henry Roswell Williams, Sr. while he was stationed in England, and they were married Feb. 6, 1947, in Garden City, Kan. They lived in Liberal, Garden City, Independence, and White City before moving to Junction City, Kan.

She worked at the Geary Community Hospital for 17 1/2 years before retiring on Oct. 10, 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry on Dec. 1, 2008. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, NARFE, and the American Legion Auxiliary, all in Junction City. She also was a member of the Eagles Lodge #830 Auxiliary in Junction City where she had served as a trustee, and was the mother of two past presidents.

She is survived by one daughter Joan M. Gfeller and her husband Mark of rural Chapman, Kan.; two sons: Ivor George and his wife Anita of North Walsham, England, and Henry R. Williams, Jr. and his wife Sheryl of Topeka, Kan. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Sam Gfeller and his wife Joye, Ashley George and his wife Rachel, Leon George and his wife Debbie, Collette George Gooderham and her husband Ian, Kari Salinas and her husband Mario, and Angela Thoenon and her husband Mark; 11 great-grandchildren: Shailynn and Jacob Gfeller, Andrew Haze, Jacob and Hugo Gooderham, Luke, Chelsea, Gabriella George, Issac and Isabelle George and Oliver George; one sister Betty Gresty of Wymondham, England. She was preceded in death by by one grandson Michael Duane Gfeller, two sisters: Dora Marsden and Nancy Turner; four brothers: Cecil George, Bertie George, Charles George, and Robert George.

Funeral services will be held at St. Xavier's Catholic Church in Junction City, Kan., at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. Father Al Brungardt will officiate. The family will receive friends at St. Xavier's Catholic Church beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be at the White City Cemetery in White City, Kan. The Londeen Funeral Chapel in Chapman, Kan. is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to Junction City/Geary County Parkinson Support Group, or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Memorials may be sent in care of the Londeen Funeral Chapel, Box 429, Chapman, KS 67431.
