Betty A. Whitehair passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Memorial Hospital in Abilene.
Elizabeth Ann Parmenter was born on Nov. 2, 1926, in Solomon, Kan., the daughter of Ebert B. and Elizabeth (Taylor) Parmenter. She graduated from Solomon High School and on April 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to William J. (Bill) Whitehair at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Abilene. The couple resided on a farm east of Abilene for 57 years. Bill preceded her in death on April 8, 2006.
Betty is survived by her sister Eveleigh (Don) Engle of Junction City; seven children Dr. Mike (Cathy) Whitehair of Abilene, Joleen (Jim) Klausman of Topeka, Kirk (Carol) Whitehair of Abilene, Elaine (Rudy) Haun of Manhattan, Sharon Whitehair of Denver, CO, Brian (Jo Ellen) Whitehair of Abilene, Chris (Leslie) Whitehair of Gretna, Neb.; 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was a homemaker and was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, and volunteered at the Abilene Area Food Pantry.
Besides her husband, Betty was preceded in death by an infant son Larry; her parents, and three brothers Ebert B. Jr, William Harry, and Bob Parmenter.
Mass of Christian Burial for Betty will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Abilene with Father Henry Baxa as Celebrant. ‘Visitation will be from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday. An Altar Society Rosary will be 5 p.m. Tuesday followed by a Parish Rosary at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
