HOYT Winning three out of their five tournament duals, the Cowboy wrestlers placed third Saturday at the Royal Valley Dual Tournament. Abilene had five first places, two second places, and one third place wrestlers.
They wrestled well overall, Abilene wrestling Coach James Stout said. We lost only one match all day below 132 pounds.
The two losses the Cowboys had were against Marysville and Hays.
We lost a heartbreaker to our league rival Marysville, Stout said, and another very close dual at three points to Hays High.
The wrestlers loss to Hays by three points and to Marysville by one, which combined is four and is less than one win which can be a six to 12 point swing.
However, the Cowboys beat Royal Valley 51-19, Lincoln East 41-30 and Santa Fe Trail 51-21.
The wrestlers will see the mat again Jan. 5 when they go to the Herington to wrestle in the annual tournament.
