SOLOMON –– Two Solomon USD 393 Board of Education members who have resigned from the board said they were wanting the current administrative structure to stay the same.
“You can only fight an uphill battle so long,” said former board President Mark Wallace.
He said there was a “significant difference of philosophy” over the structure among board members.
“I wasn’t getting anywhere,” he said.
Russ Fair agreed.
“I don’t believe in getting rid of (elementary principal) Kerri Lacy,” he added.
Both Wallace and Fair resigned their positions.
Wallace said his thought was that there was a great K-8 principal in place, and a great 9-12 principal in place, and looked only to fill the shoes left by retiring superintendent Jim Runge.
High school principal Shelly Swayne has also resigned.
On Tuesday, the Solomon Middle School students presented a petition to the school board asking to keep Lacy
Shaelynn Cross, a middle school student, presented the petition. She said 74 out of 81 students signed the petition. She read a letter she had written, and letters written by Francis Daily and Katie Daily.
The board had called a special meeting Tuesday to hear patron comments about the proposed restructuring.
