The Kansas Department of Transportation informed the Abilene city officials that the eastbound Interstate 70 entrance and exit are projected to be open to traffic the week of Nov. 11.
Originally, KDOT officials hoped to have the entrance and exit open Oct. 7. That was moved back this week.
City Manager David Dillner said the delay is obviously subject to change due to weather and other construction-related considerations.
The westbound entrance and exit ramps are scheduled to be closed next construction season for similar construction activities on the westbound lanes.
Dillner said the city is discussing a plan for improved signage during next year’s closure to help market the Abilene business community, which have experienced a downturn due to the interstate construction.
