What inspired you to go into education? While I've had some amazing experiences and opportunities to perform all over the US, my inspiration to teach came from my teachers. Mr. Miles (AHS Band), Mr. Laudermilk (AHS Choir), and Mr. Allison (AMS Choir) were people I admired and respected. Their careers were marked by the admirable characteristic of really caring about their students, and wanting them to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
What brought you to Abilene? I've always wanted to teach at my alma mater. I'm very proud to direct the program that I was once a part of. Every day is a new adventure.
A memorable teaching moment: While we have had a lot of musical success stories in the band program, I would imagine that my most memorable moments are like those of many educators. In middle school, kids have so many things on their plates. They're truly building an identity they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. They are trying to figure out who they are (and sometimes, who they are not). When a student comes to a place where they understand a little more about who they are, and where they fit in the world, that's success.
