Robert Clifton Cormack, a resident of rural Abilene, Kansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the age of 77.
Bob was born March 10, 1936 in rural Abilene, the third child of Richard Lauran and Vilas Clara (Prater) Cormack. He attended Highland Grade School and graduated from Abilene High School in 1954. He ran track and cross country at the University of Kansas, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1958. He was united in marriage to Patricia Viola on August 23, 1957, at the First United Methodist Church, Abilene; they later divorced.
He was a farmer and stockman south of Abilene throughout his life. He also taught math, science, and physical education at area schools. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Knapp Lowry on January 18, 1985 at the Grace United Church of Christ in Abilene.
Bob was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Abilene, and subsequently of the Grace United Church of Christ, Abilene. He served in many roles including deacon, trustee, Christian educator, and choir member. He was a member and officer in the local National Farmers Organization and the Farmers Union.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of their home; four children from his first marriage: Robert Kent Cormack and husband William T. Pugh of Athens, Tennessee; Kathy Woodard and husband R. J. of Abilene; Beth Middleton and husband Brad of Denver, Colorado; Christopher Lee Cormack and wife Amanda of Abilene; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Joyce Fick of Overland Park; two brothers: Calvin Cormack of Lake Quivira; and Jerry Cormack of Lenexa. He was preceded in death by his parents Lauran and Vilas Cormack, and one sister Dona Womochil.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Grace United Church of Christ in Abilene, Kansas, on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. The Rev. Phyllis Garrett and Pansy Beaudoin will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Grace United Church of Christ on Friday evening, October 11, from 5:30 to 7:30.
Memorials may be given to the Grace United Church of Christ of Abilene; the First Baptist Church of Abilene; the ALS Clinic at the University of Kansas Medical Center; or Hospice of Dickinson County. Memorials may be sent in care of the Londeen Funeral Chapel, Box 429, Chapman, KS 67431.
