The Chapman cross-country team competed in the Council Grove Invitational Thursday.
“Even though it was a windy and warm day, we saw some great performances with the high school kids getting personal records,” Irish coach Cindy Zumbrunn said. “The kids have been working hard in practice and some of them are really getting in shape and improving.”
Chapman Middle School runners for the 7th grade girls were Madeline Elliott placing seventh with a time of 6:58 (1 mile), Bryanna Albert, 15th, 7:32 and Schallynne Huber, 17th, 7:42.
The CMS 7th grade boys were represented by Gabe Barten who took home a medal at 4th in 6:01.
The 8th grade girls ran two miles and Lindsey Anderson finished second and earned a medal with a time of 13:25.
Pierce Hayden led the eighth grade boys with a third place medal time of 12:13, Chris Lockwwod, seventh, 13:12, Colin Henderson, 13th, 13:34; Tanner Medrano, 18th, 13:49; Tyler Edwards, 36th, 17:32 and Kade Demuth, 37th, 17:39.
In the high school junior varsity division Kylle Bemis finished 24th in the 4K run in 24:01 and Jeremy Rodgers finished 50th in 24:36.
The Irish varsity girls ran a 4K race with Amber Hahn placing 10th in 16:42 earning a medal and season PR. Other finishers for Chapman were Rebekah Thomas, 18th, 17:14 (medal and season PR) and Sarah Bieker, 24th, 17:40 (career PR).
The varsity boys finished ninth as a team and were led by Wyatt Pryor, 23rd, 18:48(season PR), Jordan Henderson, 58th, 20:26 (season PR), Tyler Schwartz, 60th, 20:59 (career PR), Ryan Hopkins, 64th, 20:59 (career PR) and Clinton Henderson, 67th, 21:03 (season PR).
The Irish host the Chapman Invitational Oct. 10 at the Indian Hills Golf Course.
