The Abilene Middle School 8th grade volleyball team hosted a quad tournament Tuesday. Teams participating were from Wamego, Fort Riley and Chapman.
The A team defeated Wamego in the first match, 27-25, 25-16.
“The girls didn’t start out very strong in the second set but they finished strong,” coach Jade Koch said.
The A team then defeated Fort Riley, 25-9, 25-5. Jayden Korf had three aces, Jaden Walters had six aces, Emileigh Gonzales had four aces, Tatum Ditto had two aces and Hallie Henry added one for the Longhorns.
Chapman fell to the A Team, 25-17, 25-20.
“Morgan Geist did a great job serving for both sets and ended the match with four aces,” coach Koch said. “Jensen Roth is continuing to do a great job hitting and getting kills for the team. Our passers and setters are doing a great job getting the balls up to the hitters.”
The B team is still undefeated on the season. They defeated Fort Riley in three sets, 25-17, 17-25, and 15-12.
McKenna Ehrich had four aces, Tiffany Shebelske had five aces, Mariah Tittel had six serves with no errors, Calista Preston had three aces and Ocean Schmidt had eight aces in the match.
Emileigh Gonzales led the B team with five aces and four kills and Alize Tyler had three aces in the B team win over Wamego.
The B team defeated Chapman, 25-6, 25-8. Hallie Henry had eight aces, Gonzales had fives aces and a kill, Grace Alvarez added an ace, Elise Jones had four aces and two kills, Tyler added two kills and Kyra Horn had one kill.
The A team is 9-3 and the B team is 12-0 on the season. The teams traveled to Fort Riley Thursday for a tri-angular and will then finish off league play Tuesday hosting Marysville.
