Name of staff member: Ashley Loucks
Position in USD #435: 2nd grade teacher
Years in this position: Two
Previous teaching experience: I taught for two years in Tonganoxie in 1st and 2nd grades
Hometown: Woodbine, attended Chapman School District
What inspired you to go into education: I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl. When I was younger I played school all the time and loved going to work with my mom who was a para. I have always loved watching the excitement that a child gets when they learn something new. Being able to make a difference in someone else's life is one of the many reasons why I love my job.
What brought you to Abilene: My husband and I moved to Abilene to be closer to my family and to raise our children in a “small town” community.
A memorable teaching moment: One of my most memorable moments of teaching was during my first year. I had a student tell me “Mrs. Loucks, you’re really short. A lot shorter than the other teachers.” Another student standing close by said, “It’s okay, Mrs. Loucks. It’s only your first year, you’ll grow into it!” Little did he know how true that statement really was!
