The Abilene High School Cowboys junior varsity and freshman team combined defeated the Concordia Panthers JV football team 44-8 Monday.
After back-to-back fumbles by the teams offenses Concordia ran the ball 90 yards to the end zone for the first score in the contest.
In the second quarter, Cowboy quarter back Ryan LaCombe connected with Jacoby Robinson for a 37-yard completion. On the following play, Hayden Funston found the end zone from five yards out for the Cowboy score.
The Cowboys scored again in the first half on a pass from LaCombe to Elliot Gassman, and a run from Jared Rimmel to set up Colten Liby’s six-yard touchdown run.
The halftime score was Abilene 12, Concordia 8.
Parker Base scored the first of his two third quarter touchdowns early in the period. Base converted the two point conversion try to make the score 20-8 Cowboys.
Base’s second score came on a three-yard run that was set up by LaCombe’s 37-yard pass to Eli Lahr. Base made the two-point conversion for a 28-8 lead at the end of three quarters.
The Cowboy defense stripped the ball from Concordia on their opening drive of the fourth quarter and the Abilene freshmen would finish out the game for the Cowboys.
Quarterback Ryan Wilson found Colby Korf on the receiving end of a 27-yard touchdown pass and Base added another two-point conversion.
The Cowboys scored their final touchdown of the game on a one-yard run by Riley Sleichter and Wilson completed the two-point extra point conversion.
