The Abilene Cowgirls volleyball team swept the Concordia Panthers in straight matches of a North Central Kansas League dual Tuesday.
“We had a good night at Concordia,” Abilene coach Mike Jantz said. “We knew they were going to come tough and they did but we weathered the storm winning the first set 25-21.”
Jessica Hayes led the Cowgirls in service points in the first set with nine including four aces. She also had two kills in the contest. Hailey Devine and Taylor Thompson added four kills each in set number one.
The Cowgirls pulled away from the Panthers for the rest of the evening taking the second set 25-10 to win the first match.
Hayes powered in four aces and three kills and Thompson and Divine each added three kills for the Cowgirls. Courtney Gesit had 22 assists in the first two sets.
Olivia Gassman and Hayes each had eight service points in the first set of the second match to lead the Cowgirls to a 25-12 win. Gassman added two aces and Divine led the team in kills with four.
Hayes had five aces in the final set to give the Cowgirls a 25-11 win. Claudia Hess had three of her team-high eight blocks on the night.
The Cowgirls go to 5-1 in league play and 15-5 on the season.
“Claudia had a nice night at the net and Jessica had 14 aces to push out our leads,” Jantz said.
The Cowgirls travel to the Hays Triangular Thursday.
