The Abilene Cowgirl tennis ream took first place in the Chapman triangular Tuesday.
The Cowgirls finished with 17 team points to Chapman’s 13 points and Wamego placed third.
Both Abilene coach Justin Amos and Derek Berns adjusted their lineups for Tuesday’s match following the Smoky Valley match on Monday and also in preparation for the North Central Kansas League meet on Saturday in Chapman.
In the No. 1 singles Abilene’s Marissa Schasrdein defeated Madison Bowers of Wamego in the first round. She then defeated Lauren Perry of Chapman to take home the gold medal.
The left-handed Rachael Lillich of the Cowgirls defeated Brianna Haga of Wamego in the first match and then bested Abby Chewning of Chapman for the victory in No. 2 singles.
Chapman’s No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Katy Fink and senior Carlie Phillips defeated the Wamego team of Hannah Pearce and Kelsey Adcock before setting aside Abilene’s No. 1 doubles team of Sam Reiff and Belle Barbieri, 6-1, for the gold medal.
The Cowgirls No. 2 doubles team of Kinsey Ford and Brenna Barrett, playing together for the first time, defeated the team from Wamego of Anna Straton and Ashlyn Helus before defeating Chapman’s Brittni Atkinson and Lucile Fux, 6-4.
Chapman will host the NCKL meet Saturday.
