The Abilene Middle School Longhorn 8th grade volleyball team won its quad meet Monday.
The A Team defeated Lakewood, 25-17, 25-14 before taking on Southeast of Saline, 25-9, 25-15 and finally defeated Salina South, 25-9, 24-14.
“The A Team did a great job,” Coach Jade Koch said. “Jensen Roth did an exceptional job hitting outside on the front row. She is such a great leader on the court and does a great job directing the others and helps keep the morale up on the court.”
Jaden Walters had 16 aces, 5 kills, 22 assists and a block for the Longhorns. Morgan Geist had two aces, nine kills and three blocks; Roth had two aces, eight kills and eight assists; Brett Short added five aces and five kills; Tatum Ditto had five aces, four kills and a block, and Jayden Korf had six aces and a block for the A Team.
“Brett Short and Jayden Korf did an exceptional job adjusting to their roles on the front line,” Koch said. “These girls are so versatile, and I know that I can put them anywhere on the front row and they will do just fine.
“Jaden Walters does a great job seeing the court,” she said. “She led the team with aces. She is smart and can spot serve anywhere on the court. She does a great job for the team and is always so consistent.
“I feel like the girls were moving well as a team,” she added. “They were hustling after balls and they were digging balls out of their comfort zone. I was very pleased with their efforts.”
The undefeated B Team won their three matches also. They defeated Lakewood, 25-12, 25-11, SES, 25-12, 25-11and Salina South, 25-11, 25-15.
Sydney Stout had 11 aces, Alize Tyler had five aces; Emileigh Gonzales led the team with 21 aces; Ocean Schmidt had two aces and six assists; Elise Jones had 12 kills and an ace; Katie Zey had two aces; Grace Alverez had three aces and nine assists and Kyra Horn added an ace for the B Team.
“Ocean Schmidt and Katie Zey did a great job stepping up and setting,” coach Koch said. “The other players did a great job adjusting from having one setter to two.”
The Longhorns will travel to Wamego Thursday for their next action.
