HOPE—The Hope High Lions football rebounded from a bruising two-point loss at Solomon the previous week to claim a decisive 60-36 home field win
Friday against the Frankfort High Wildcats.
In spite of the convincing win, Hope High head Coach Jeff Hostetter said his team needed more work on the defensive side of the ball.
However, the Lions’ field boss remained confident in the ability of the offense to generate points to help offset weaknesses on defense.
“I’m more concerned about our depth,” Coach Hostetter.
There were 14 players listed on the Hope roster Friday night compared to 22 for the Wildcats.
Frankfort opened the scoring Friday night at the 2:48 mark of the first quarter on a 59-yard pass play and PAT run.
But the visitors’ joy was short-lived when Hope’s Trevor Hostetter returned the ensuing kick-off 66 yards for a touchdown. Ty Wood caught the PAT pass from Lions’ quarterback Adam Adkins.
The home team extended its lead after Hope recovered Frankfort fumble and marched a short distance before freshman Trace Hostetter rambled six yards to the end zone. Adkins ran the PAT.
Wildcat quarterback Jake Rose brought his crew to within two points of the Lions on a 45-yard TD run with 10:30 left in the second period. A PAT run that would have tied game failed.
Hope then scored 22 unanswered points during the remainder of the quarter and held a 38-14 lead at halftime.
The Lions outscored Frankfort, 8-6, during the third period.
The Wildcats then claimed a 16-14 advantage during the fourth period.
Frankfort ran 74 plays in logging 358 yards on offense. The tally was 64 rushes for 292 yards and two of 10 passes for 66 yards.
In contrast, Hope ran only 24 plays in compiling 332 yards in offense. The log was 17 rushes for 186 yards and five of seven passes for 146 yards.
Adkins led the Lions with four carries for 72 yards. Two of the totes resulted in touchdowns.
Hostetter tallied 65 yards on seven carries and topped the Hope receiving chart with two catches for 82 yards. He scored four touchdowns.
Dustin Davidson led the Lions’ defense with seven tackles and 16 assists. Tate Riedy followed with two tackles and 18 assists.
