CHAPMAN Southeast of Saline Trojans rode on the arm of junior quarterback Cody Schlesener to a 27-6 non-conference football victory over the Chapman Fighting Irish Friday.
Schlesener threw four touchdowns passes, two each to Matthew Helvey and Kyler Sager to bring his team from behind as Chapman lead 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Chapmans Robert Walsh scored on a 55 - yard TD run to open the scoring. The PAT attempt failed and the Irish led 6-0 at the end of one.
In the second quarter Schlesener hit Sager with a 65 - yard scoring pass to lead at half time 7-6.
The second half saw the Trojans from Gypsum score 20 unanswered points to claim the victory.
Walsh carried the ball 29 times for 204 yards rushing for Chapman.
Chandler Sweet, making his debut at quarterback for Chapman, completed four of 12 passes for 54 yards and had two interceptions. Gavin Canaday was the recipient of the four passes.
Chapman had 247 yards of total offense while SES had 320.
The Irish will host Marysville (who fell 48-0 to Wamego) Sept. 20 to begin North Central Kansas League Play.
