A motorcycle parade will be held on Friday night.
The “Light Parade” is an “amazing kaleidoscope of colors,” according a press release.
The Kansas Gold Wing Road Riders Association is holding their District Rally in Abilene this weekend. This is the fourth time they have selected Abilene for their rally.
Riders will circle through the parking lots at Sterling House and Frontier Estates so residents may enjoy the extravaganza of lights. The public is encouraged to line the streets and greet the GWRRA members.
Events will be at the Dickinson County Fairgrounds and in Sterl Hall. Activities will be throughout Friday and Saturday. Over 150 motorcycle enthusiasts from several states are registered to attend the rally. Mayor John Ray will officially welcome the group during their opening ceremony Friday night at Sterl Hall.
The parade will start at 9:15 p.m. The parade route will run from the Dickinson County Fairgrounds on 7th Street. to Vine St., traveling north to 14th, then east on 14th St to Buckeye, south on Buckeye to 3rd, west on 3rd to Rogers and back to Sterl Hall.
The Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau worked with the group over the past several months, assisting them with rally arrangements. During their stay in Abilene, members will charter the trolley, tour the museums and frequent the restaurants and shops. Economic impact of the group over the three-day period is expected to be $107,000.
