Marie L. Davis, 77, died Monday, Aug. 26, in Abilene. She was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Waterville, Kan., the daughter of George H. Sr.and Nina S. (Lacy) Whitesell.
Growing up in Frankfort, she attended local schools. On March 3, 1955, she was married to Jerry J. Davis Sr. in Manhattan and moving to Abilene to own and operate Jerry’s I.G.A. She had also owned and operated the Alamo Saloon in Old Abilene Town, was a checker at Boogaart’s Grocery and was a C.N.A. at Abilene Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kimberly K. Davis, a sister Jean Fairchild, and three brothers, George Jr., Bob and Melvin Whitesell.
She is survived by three daughters, Denise McCullough, Des Moines, Iowa; Debbie Lytle, Abilene, Shayla Mohr, Abilene; two sons Dennis Davis, Salina; Jerry Davis Jr., Abilene; sister, Helen Warnica, Frankfort; brother Wayne Whitesell, Blue Rapids; 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Danner Funeral Home.
