HOLLAND, Texas –– Mona Evelyn Osborn, 103 of Holland, Texas, died August 11, 2013 in Georgetown, Texas.
Mona was born April 18, 1910 in Abilene, Kansas, the only child of Alexander Wilson and Susan Amanda (Smith) Wilson, who preceded her in death, February 2, 1936 and July 11, 1945, respectively.
Mona was a 1928 graduate of Abilene High School and afterwards completed her education with Western Union where she was employed for a number of years.
Mona was married to Lorean “Truckie” Osborn on March 10, 1937 in Abilene where they made their home at 106 N.W. 10th Street for over 50 years. In 1949 they opened Osborn’s Liquor Store on N.W. 2nd Street across from the Union Pacific Depot and operated that business until they retired in about 1977. Truckie preceded her in death January 6, 1988.
Mona and Truckie were active members of the Abilene Country Club, enjoying many happy hours of golfing and participating in tournaments and other functions. In later years, Mona assisted with many of the activities at the country club. She was a dedicated volunteer at Dickinson County Heritage Society for several years and continued to support it when she was not able to be involved and following her relocation to Holland, Texas in 2003. She was also a long time friend and supporter of the Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad. She enjoyed watching professional golf and college basketball on television. Her hobbies included knitting and genealogical research. Up to the end, she was a avid reader, played word games and worked crossword puzzles.
Mona was a loving mother to Richard Lorean Osborn (Catherine Wood) of Holland Texas and Ronald Gene Osborn (Jan Brock) of Odessa Texas, who survive her. Also surviving her are grandsons Richard Le Osborn of Euless Texas and John Ethan Osborn (Kristi Kallemeyn) of Frisco Texas; grandchildren Paul Osborn and Madeleine Osborn of Euless Texas, and Paige Osborn and Alex Osborn of Frisco Texas; step grandchildren, Lisa Groening (Rick), Tammy Clanton, Johnny Pierce, Troy Lynn Pierce (Heather); step great grandchildren, Jessica Pierce, Jennifer Solis (Luis), Jordan Groening, Jesenyia Pierce, Callie Pierce, Preston Pierce, Brandon Pierce, Troy Pierce Jr., and Princess Pierce, step great great grandchildren, Eric Hallmark, Wisper Edgell, and Chyanne Solis, all of Odessa Texas.
Following cremation, Mona and Truckie’s ashes will be scattered over their farm south of Abilene.
Memorials may be given to the Dickinson County Heritage Society and the Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad.
