NEWTON –– Lila J. Hassel, 79, died Monday, Aug. 12, in Newton. She was born June 2, 1934 in Abilene, the daughter of Lyle G. and Lorean A. (Scott) Watson. Growing up in Wichita, she attended local schools. She had been employed by the Wichita Eagle Beacon for nine years and did daycare at home. On Aug. 10, 1964, she was married to James Charles Hassel. He preceded her in death July 14, 2000.
She is survived by two daughters Joyce Gill and Michelle Hassel, and a son, James C. Hassel, all of Wichita; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Danner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery.
