Armed confrontation ends without incident

A 59-year-old man was taken into custody without incident by officers of the Abilene Police Department Wednesday afternoon after receiving a call from a third party relative, said Abilene Police Chief Mark Heimer.

Police received a call at 2:45 p.m. that the man, who was armed, had barricaded himself and a family member inside a house in the 400 block of Northwest Seventh Street.

Police made contact with a woman at the residence and she was taken safely from the residence.

Police officers continued to talk with the man. After he was taken into custody, he was taken for an evaluation.

The incident lasted about an hour, Heimer said.
