OSWEGO –– Donald H. Fischer, age 97 passed away July 11, , 2013 at the Oswego Community Hospital following an illness.
Donald was born September 18, 1915 in Ellinwood, KS to Herman and Katherine (Tieman) Fischer. He grew up and attended school in the Ellinwood Community,
He married Edna Lillian Ihde on Nov. 27, 1940. He farmed in Dickinson County until 1960. He then worked for the Chapman KS School District until his retirement.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oswego, KS where he served as a Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. He was also a member of the Oswego Lions Club.
He enjoyed camping and fishing and he loved to sing and praise the Lord.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen May and her husband, Bryan, of Oswego; one son, Larry Fischer and his wife, Sheryl of Council Grove, KS; 9 grandchildren, Jodi Thompson, Parsons, KS, Brian Emig, Chapman, KS, Paul Fischer, Garden Plain, KS, Michelle Calvin, Topeka, KS, Janelle Fulton, Topeka, KS, James May, Springfield, MO, Carman May, Kansas City, KS , Jennifer Sollener, Abbeyville, KS, and Shane Oliverus, Overland Park, KS; 20 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna, who died June 28, 1995, two brothers, Edward Fischer and Harold Fischer, one son, Dennis Fischer, and two grandchildren, Sonja Fischer and Monta Lawrence.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Monday July 15, 2013 at the First Baptist Cemetery near Elmo, KS under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, KS.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either First Baptist Church, Oswego, KS or the Oswego Home Place in care of the funeral home.
