The Abilene Rebels Senior Babe Ruth baseball team traveled to Lyons Monday night for the opening round of the District Four Tournament to play the host Lyons team in the second game of the evening.
Abilene got out to a 2-0 lead after scoring two runs in the second inning but things would not go well for Abilene in the third inning. Lyons scored four runs, mostly due to Abilene miscues.
Lyons added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an Abilene error. The Rebels also left the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Lyons went on to win the game 7-3.
"If we take care of things and don't make any errors in the third inning, I think we win this game,” Abilene Head Coach Billy Hansen said. "We talked before the game about not letting something like that happen, and it happened. We just weren't good defensively when we needed to be against a good team.”
Abilene will now have to try to come through the loser's bracket to get to the championship game.
Abilene will play Hillsboro, who lost to Salina LDA, Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Lyons.
